- Leukemia,
lymphoma & myloma (the blood cancers) are
cancers that originate in the bone marrow and
lymphatic tissues.
- Every five minutes, someone
in the United States learns that they have a
blood cancer - more than 300 people a day.
- Despite a 61% decline over
the past 3 years, Leukemia causes more deaths
among children and people under age 20 than any
other disease.
- These cancers have touched
the lives of so many of us; 712,145 Americans
are presently living with leukemia, lymphoma
or myeloma.

|
- Each year over 1,400 new
cases of blood cancers are diagnosed in Colorado
and tragically over 700 Coloradoans die each
year from these diseases.
- The good news is research
and treatment efforts are paying off! Approximately
40 different drugs are now being used for treatment.
- The overall five-year survival
rate has tripled in the past 40 years for patients
with leukemia.
- Unfortunately, for other
forms of leukemia the news is not so good. For
those diagnosed with myeloma, their chance of
survival is only 32%.
